New Report Reveals Gaps in Domestic Violence Services Across NC
On September 4, 2024, the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) conducted its 19th Annual Domestic Violence Counts Census. In just 24 hours:
-
1,647 victims received services from DV programs in North Carolina
-
575 requests for help were unmet—mostly for housing and shelter
-
922 hotline contacts were answered
-
447 people were educated through public sessions
These numbers reflect both the dedication of advocates and the ongoing funding crisis. Since 2018, federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funds have dropped from $103M to just $24.6M in North Carolina.
